eContent Metadata Processing Guidelines

Updated on 6/20/2012, DCL has published a Draft, work in progress document titled “eContent Metadata Processing Guidelines.” From the document Overview:

The metadata for eContent resources varies widely, depending on the publisher. Following are the categories of metadata that we receive and process:

  • Online submissions (i.e. individually cataloged titles in MARC)
  • MARC records in batch
  • ONIX records
  • Excel spreadsheet

Each of these metadata types requires different upfront processing to create and/or format MARC records. No two vendors’ records are the same, even if they are both in MARC format, and each publisher’s metadata must be evaluated to determine what unique changes/corrections might be needed…
